History

It is thought that Jan Smit also known as Canaqueese, was the first settler in Quebec in the 1860s' as one of the "Praying Indians".

In 1773 about 30,000 Loyalists came to Canada, most of them were made up of Merchant class.They came by ship from the lower Hudson Valley to the Maritimes.Not long after,about 6000 more,most owners of backwoods farms involved in the war,came from the upper Hudson and Mohawk valley region,either by land or by Lake Champlain to what is now Quebec and Ontario.
